After marrying an interior designer Adriaan Palar, Sotjawaruni then was known as Runi Palar.
As a stay-at-home mother, Runi Palar began to design clothes and jewellery for herself as a hobby at home. Her creative and art skills was a legacy from her late father, Raden Tjokrosoeroso, a silversmith from Yogyakarta who was the first Indonesian to show and exhibit his silver craft and its making process in America on 1938.
